Why We Vent Roof Cavities – And Why You Should Care

Most people don’t think twice about what’s going on inside their roof space—but they should.
When you insulate your ceiling and throw a metal roof on top, you’ve basically created a sealed box. If that box isn’t ventilated, warm moist air gets trapped. Over time, that turns into condensation, mould, and eventually rust. We see it all the time—brand new roofs with rot and corrosion because no one thought about airflow.
That’s why we always recommend proper roof ventilation, even though a lot of other roofers skip it to save a few bucks. We’re not interested in cutting corners that’ll come back to bite you.
We use passive vents—usually at the eaves and ridge—to let that moisture escape naturally. It’s invisible once installed, doesn’t cost much in the scheme of things, and makes a massive difference to the long-term health of your home.
Bottom line:If you’re paying for a new roof, don’t screw it up by forgetting what’s underneath. Venting the roof cavity properly is one of the smartest things you can do—even if most people don’t know it yet.
